10 Day You Challenge - Day 3

Day Three
Films

Choosing three films was rather difficult for me because I really love movies!  My tastes in movies have definitely changed through the years and to narrow it down to favorites is just not my style.  I'm not a list person when it comes to favorites but there are a few movies that I love you watch over and over again.

Obviously my family has influenced my tastes quite a bit over the years.  I grew up with my parents loving scifi movies all the time.  This first movie is a result of that upbringing.  There is something so strangely beautiful about this movie and the music is intriguing to me.  I love the idea that love is the element that all else revolves around.

This movie is my fun movie with a French twist.  If you don't like subtitles...well, I'm sorry.  I love the quirkiness of Amelie and her take on life.  I feel like this movie makes me smile and really want to live in Paris!  Maybe someday when my kids are grown, maybe?

I love Audrey Hepburn!  How can you not like her?  She is so beautiful and she has such a dignity that carries her.  I know this is a rather expected Audrey Hepburn movie but, I love the femininity in this movie that we really don't see as much any more.  My favorite part of this movie is when she gets her hair cut.  The freedom she must feel after having all her decisions made for her.  I also always loved the idea of going somewhere and pretending I'm a completely different person than in my normal life, but I have yet to try it.

10 Day You Challenge - Day 2

Day Two
Songs

First off, I need to preface with the fact that I have a rather eclectic collection of music as well as my favorites change with my mood daily!  Today is a mellow day and so is my song choices.  I didn't think through this to hard but I like the old "something new(ish) and something old(ish)" theme.

I started with a rather popular song these days.  No matter how often I hear this song I never seem to get sick of it.  There is something about Adele's voice that seems so strong to me.  I just love it.  I maybe completely sick of it next week but today, I'm happy.

My second choice took me back to high school.  It was a very turbulent time in my life, as it is for most teenagers.  I remember listening to this over and over again.  It still gets me to this day!  There is something amazing about letting go when I realize how selfish I have been and the healing can happen.

It was hard to pick just two, but sometimes limits are a good thing...Right?

Ok, time to go knit something!

10 Day You Challenge - Day 1

Because I love a good challenge!  I came across this challenge while I was browsing blogs and I just want to send a shout out to Marlena at Swatch This!  for doing this challenge too.

Day One
A Picture of Myself

I do have many, many pictures in my collection.  I have come to the conclusion that there are very few with me in them.  I tend to be the photographer, which I like much better.  But here is one that I do love. This was taken by a wonderful friend of mine, Jackie, when we took the boys for a much needed hike at Thunderbird Falls.  This was a difficult time for us since we hadn't been in Alaska for very long and my husband deployed not that long before this was taken.  My oldest son was really going through a "don't take my picture!" phase and my youngest is a runner, hence the mommy death grip on the children.

I can't believe how much my children have changed me and mostly for the better! They are also another reason why I started knitting.  My very first knitting project was a very basic little sweater.  There is nothing like being pregnant to get those creative juices flowing!  It's kind of funny to look at now that I know a little more about knitting.  A total hot mess but made with love!

Happy 4th of July!

This is my fun little project from yesterday and I actually really enjoyed being able to finish a project so quickly.  I am really into instant gratification some days!  Thanks to Laura Archibald at Bunny Slippers   for this cute little coffee cup cozy pattern!  I've found that I have become a little spoiled with my yarn.  I just picked this Red Heart yarn at Walmart and as much as I enjoy not spending a lot of money, the feel of the acrylic yarn is just not my cup of tea!

I wanted to post a quick thank you to all the soldiers that are constantly protecting the freedom that we so often take for granted.  Although my husband is one of them, I am so grateful for the sacrifice other military families have made to protect what we love!

HAPPY 4TH of JULY!

Yarn Along

Joining in with the Yarn Along hosted by Ginny of Small Things and this is my first one...knitting and reading, how can that be wrong?  Since I'm not the fastest knitter I'm sure this will be in many pictures but I'm ok with that and hopefully you will be too.  This will some day be a Friendship Shawl that I picked up a free pattern for at Michaels like years ago, when I first started knitting.  I knew that someday I would be able to understand the then foreign language that it was written in.  At this point I work on this at night when the boys are in bed so I don't have to set it down as much.  So far I'm pleased with how it's turning out but frustrated with how slow going it is.  Patience and Peace...that's what I'm working on!  How about you?
As for my book, I actually just started reading Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most by Brooke McGlothlin and I am loving it!  Yes, lately if I want to read something it almost always has to be on my Kindle app.  Being a mom with two active boys I never know when the random downtime is going to strike so I take advantage when I can.  I'm so often overwhelmed by being their mother and trying my hardest to raise them to be amazing Godly men.  Prayer is the key and I know it makes a difference!  As hard as it is for me to imagine, God loves them more than I do and He made them to be something special!  I'm just trying to not get in His way!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...Amazing mountains with just a hint on snow left on them.

I am thinking...I really need to do something with the day but I'm just not sure what.  I know my boys would be fine just playing outside with the neighbors but going to the playground may be a better idea or even a bike ride!

I am thankful...for my amazingly hard working husband and the fact that he went fishing for halibut when he doesn't even eat fish!  I am so blessed!

In the kitchen...there is a pile of pots and pans that need washed, a dishwasher that needs emptied and reloaded, and a pot of coffee that I will drink as I blog rather than clean! : )

I am wearing...yoga pants and a hoodie!  This seems to be a norm for me and I'm ok with that!

I am creating...currently, two projects going right now (for a knitter that seems to be rather impresive!), a shawl and another hat.

I am going...somewhere...later. For right now I'm staying put babysitting my friend's sweet little girl, Kinley!

I am wondering...what my two boys are up too since they went outside to play.

I am reading...Warrior Prayers by Brooke McGlothlin.  Just picked it up on my Kindle this morning!

I am hoping...make it through the day unscathed!

I am looking forward to...getting my hair done, these roots are out of control!

I am hearing...the sound of three little boys riding their bikes/scooters in the cul-de-sac and their joyus laughter!  One of my favorite sounds!

Around the house...there are chorse to be done and I'm content watching Kinley sleep while I type away.

One of my favorite things...a clean quiet house!  This doesn't happen nearly enough but when it does...WOW!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Soccer, soccer, grocery shopping, and praying for my husband/boys everyday!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Recent Stuff...

Here are some of the things I've been working on lately. I am still a newbie to this but here we go:

A friend of my showed me this pattern and I just had to try it! So cute and simple! I just used some inexpensive cotton yarn from my stash and away I went. Now I just have to find a little girl that it will fit!

I made this for my dear friend Ginna who is having her first baby in a couple months and I'm over the moon excited for them! There is something so adorable about a baby in a sleep sack. I think I would be tempted to knit myself a adult sized one if it wouldn't take me forever! This was also my first attempt with cables of any kind and it was surprisingly simple! I was so proud of myself when I finished it! I still need to block it but I've decided to work on a little hat to match. I love baby stuff! I definitely need to give props to http://comfortwool.blogspot.com/, I really love most of the stuff on there and I'm sure there will be more knitting ideas coming from that blog!

I also knitted a matching hat! I'm very excited about this since it's my first hat ever! For some reason I had this preconceived notion that hats were so hard to do and I'm pleased that this hat mystique is completely behind me now! Look out...I see hats for my families' future Christmas presents!

I've been only knitting for a short period of time. My mother-in-law and my grandmother-in-law have been instrumental in teaching and guiding me in this adventure. I owe them for introducing me to a world that I never even thought I could be apart of. Family is an amazing blessing sometimes!

Welcome!

Welcome! My name is Heather and my family and I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I'm married to a wonderful man and we have two amazing little boys.

Living in a house full of testosterone I have found that creating is a great outlet for the craziness that is my life!

I'm starting this blog to share some of my creations and my journey in becoming creative. Hope you join me as I continue to post more.
